Description

This is a statue on the high altar of the parish church in the german town of Bommerheim, near Oberursel. On the opposite side is located his sister Saint Justina.
Both Saints have been very venerated in the barony of the bishops of Mayence. The relics of the martyrs Aureus and Justina survived the Reformation, wars and other historical events and are now in the high altar.
This baroque altar was realized by the artist Martin Volk (1740), a famous artist of the school of Hadamar.

Saint Aureus was bishop of Mainz before 441. During the fight for conserving the pure christian and roman teachings against the heresy of the Arianism, which was spread between the eastgermanic population he was chased by the Arianists and had to flee. After the devastation during the incursion of the Huns he came back and with the survivors he started the resistance. Probably in 451 he was killed with roman-christian people and his sister Saint Justina in the cathedral by the Huns and the Arianists

thanks a lot. it wasn't easy to take a pic of the church because there is an alarm system near the choir. You can only work with zoom :-D I will try to get better pics after attending the mass there.
